I actually met Jimmy's best friend Kevin before I "officially" met Jimmy. They were roommates at Monmouth College, but had gone to high school together at Quigley Archbishop Preparatory Seminary in Chicago. Kevin and I had a psychology class together and I asked if I could borrow his text book wherein many visits to the Service House where they both lived ensued.
Jimmy and I have often joked that Kevin is the third wheel on our tricycle. The boys have lived together twice, once in college and once in this house whereas Kevin and I have lived together three times: once in college, once post-college, and once in this house.
He is an incredible friend, someone up for any adventure at any time, and has the most inappropriate sense of humor (to match my own).
Kevin's leaving for the Peace Corps in two days. He'll be living in Thailand for 26-ish months. So we threw a going away party for him at his favorite bar, The Hidden Cove. The irony is that Kevin loves karaoke and is pretty damn good at it despite his stutter. A number of his and Jimmy's high school friends came, an even bigger showing of our college friends, and one of our (favorite) professors and his wife came up for the festivities.
We will see Kevin off this week and wish him the best on his journey. And our plans for Thailand 2014 are already in the works!
