Just a day or two past Johannah turning three and a half, we spent our last day together. That morning when I walked in, she said, "You know what, Kelli? I'm 3 1/2 now and I discovered this morning my feet are closer to the ground than when I was just three." I didn't want our day to be over the top because I didn't want to play up that it was my last day. So we colored and painted and went to the park. We went to lunch at First Slice and shared a piece of pie. We played a bit before her nap and she woke up just before I left.
I'm at a loss for words to describe what an experience it's a been to share in the life of this individual soul. These last 3+ years have been the best yet as I stepped away from a stressful job, went back to graduate school, and earned a Master's degree, and settled into my home and the life I want to live. She's very much been a part of this process and I'm honored to have participated in the process of raising a child.
I have been hired on at my internship and started my new position as Coordinator of Community Development and Sustainability for the 45th Ward.
