Good morning, Women folk --
I want to send you a short email to let you know about a SUPER FABULOUS feminist project that Lindsey Markel has undertaken. Lindsey is a friend from Monmouth College who I've admired for her knitting skills, acting abilities, poetic prose, and extensive collection of vinyl. In recent years, I feel especially honored to know her as her feminist ideals, goals, and outlook on life have inspired me in my own journey of self.
She has recently published a free podcast that is utterly amazing and exactly what my 12-year-old self needed to hear. If work with young women, have young women, or are a young woman . . . please, please, please spend the next 10-15 minutes listening to and meditating on what this project entails. Download it free here.
The cool news is . . . she is publishing a print version of "You Are Among Friends" before the holidays which I hope you pick up for yourself and everyone you know.
Anyway -- the reason that I'm writing you is because Lindsey is asking for more stories, for YOUR stories. This is what she had to say ::
"I want to make sure I cover all necessary topics in the You Are Among Friends book (which will be published by the holidays, by the way! Start your letters to Santa now!). In writing the zine, I wrote directly to my memory of my twelve-year-old self. In the book, not only do I want to address a wider audience, but I also want to address a range of concerns wider than the ones I personally dealt with most.
Girls, ladies, women: What were you most concerned about as an adolescent? What made you deliriously happy? What did you worry about? What made you cry so much that your dad scolded you at the dinner table to "quit crying all the time?" (Oh. Just me, then?) Please click the "Say Hi" link above and send me an email to let me know."
Please, please, please consider contributing to her book. It's an amazing project, inspiring, stimulating, and even something that my 24 year old self needed to hear.
It's worth it. You're worth it. Thank you for being an incredible lady.
